West Melbourne Seeks Hometown Heroes for Veterans Day Banners

The City of West Melbourne invites residents to nominate local heroes for its annual Hometown Heroes program. The initiative honors U.S. Armed Forces service members, veterans and deceased veterans with close ties to the city.

Selected honorees will receive street pole banners along West New Haven Avenue, between Circle Drive and Interstate 95, for Veterans Day. Each banner will display the honoree's name, branch of service, era of service and a photograph.

Nominees must be current West Melbourne residents serving in or honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces. Alternatively, nominees can be deceased veterans who were immediate family members of current West Melbourne residents and had close ties to the city. Immediate family includes spouse, child, parent or grandchild.

Nominations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. To be included in the 2026 Veterans Day display, nominations must arrive by Sept. 5.

The program has no application cost. Submit a high-quality photograph of the honoree in uniform, a copy of military service verification (DD-214) and a completed Honoree Release Form if the honoree is living.
