West Melbourne City Council Approves New Building Permit Fees

WEST MELBOURNE – The West Melbourne City Council approved an updated building permit fee schedule on Feb. 17, 2026. The new schedule, established by Resolution NO. 2026-04, supersedes a previous resolution and aligns city fees with current Florida Building Codes and their associated costs.

The city last updated its permit fee schedule in November 2024. Recent changes to the Florida Building Codes have increased costs for plan review, inspections, and technological standards, prompting the adjustment.

Under the revised schedule, building permit fees will be calculated based on a project's total valuation. Fees are as follows:

• Up to $2,000: $70 minimum
• $2,001 to $100,000: $70 for the first $2,000, plus $5 per additional $1,000 or fraction thereof
• $100,001 to $500,000: $550 for the first $100,000, plus $4 per additional $1,000
• Over $500,000: $2,150 for the first $500,000, plus $3 per additional $1,000

A separate plan review fee, equal to half the building permit fee, will also be collected when the permit is issued. Additional fees apply to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and gas installations, as well as for wells, building moves, demolitions, fences, and re-roofing projects.

Specific fees include $110 for new single-family residential electrical permits and $85 per unit for new multi-family electrical permits. Residential mechanical change-outs will cost $70, and new residential bathroom plumbing permits are also $70.

The council also established a $100 administrative fee for fire services. This fee covers the city’s costs for coordinating third-party fire plan reviews and inspections conducted by entities such as Brevard County Fire Rescue.

Permit revision fees are set at $50 per half-hour, with a minimum charge for the first half-hour. The City Council's authority to update these fees comes from Chapter 18-272 of the City of West Melbourne’s Code of Ordinances.
