Rockledge High Resource Officer Wins Florida's Top School Award

Chris Hattaway, the school resource officer at Rockledge High School, won the 2026 Florida School-Related Employee of the Year award from the Florida Department of Education.
Hattaway, a Rockledge High alumnus, previously received Brevard Public Schools' 2025–2026 School-Related Employee of the Year award before the state recognition.
At his former school, Hattaway helped establish Rocking Resilience, a lunchtime program developed with a local mental health organization that teaches students social and emotional support tools. He also introduced K9 Trusty, Brevard Public Schools' first therapy dog, to campus.
Hattaway created a free summer camp for incoming and at-risk students that provides mentorship and connects them with community resources. He coordinates holiday donations that reach more than 500 students and their families.
Rather than focus solely on enforcement, Hattaway builds relationships with students. Brevard Public Schools said his work has made a lasting impact on the Rockledge High community.
