Melbourne Village Prepares for 2026 Municipal Election: Mayor and Four Commission Seats Up for Grabs

Melbourne Village residents will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to elect a Mayor and four Commission members. These positions, serving two-year terms, are crucial for the town's governance.

The election will determine the leadership for the next two years, impacting local policies and community direction. Voters will cast their ballots at AHF Hall, located at 535 Hammock Rd, with polls open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Prospective candidates for Mayor and Commission seats had a qualifying period from August 5, 2026, to August 14, 2026. During this time, individuals submitted a qualifying packet to the Town Clerk. This packet required a petition signed by at least ten Town electors to secure a spot on the ballot. Write-in candidates had a slightly extended period, from August 5, 2026, to August 19, 2026, to file their paperwork.

According to Town Charter Sec. 2.02, Commission members and the Mayor must have resided in Melbourne Village for at least one year prior to qualification. They must also meet the qualifications of a Town Elector, as outlined in Town Charter Sec. 10.04. The Town Commission announced the qualifying proclamation on July 28, 2026, at 6:30 PM. They validated the candidate qualifying packets on August 25, 2026, at 6:30 PM.

Town Charter Sec. 2.05 specifies that elected officials will take office at the first regular meeting following the general election. In the event of a tie vote, Town Charter Sec. 9.02 states that the Commission will determine the prevailing candidate by lot.
