Melbourne residents are remembering Ewell “Stoney” Stonewall Neal, Jr., who recently passed away. Neal cultivated a reputation for his passion for the outdoors, his devotion to the Florida Gators and his celebrated culinary talents, particularly his fish fries, grits, ribs and boiled peanuts.
Neal found deep contentment in nature, spending his time fishing, RVing and participating in various outdoor pursuits. His enthusiasm extended to his beloved Gators, for whom he cheered loudly in football, basketball and baseball. His vibrant spirit often echoed near the Melbourne High alumni games.
Beyond his outdoor activities, Neal was a renowned cook in the community. His fish fries, along with his signature grits, ribs and boiled peanuts, were a highlight for many. These gatherings fostered fellowship and shared good times with friends and family, creating memorable occasions akin to annual Melbourne Art Festival cookouts.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Dana and David Moser, and Amy and Will Stirna; and his grandchildren, Jordan (Moser) and Seth Spillare, Grant Moser, Andrew Stirna, Abigail Stirna, and Grace Stirna. He also leaves behind his sisters, Jeanete Boudroux, Virginia and Steven Mauldin, and Elizabeth and John Parmelee, along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
