Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Second Annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday | Executive Office of the Governor

Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Second Annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday | Executive Office of the Governor Skip to main content Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Second Annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday September 14 2026 LAKELAND, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced Florida’s Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is back for a second year, providing tax relief on firearms, ammunition and a wide range of hunting, fishing and camping supplies through December 31. The Governor also broke ground on the new Florida Archery Center at Tenoroc in Lakeland, expanding opportunities for Floridians to participate in shooting sports and enjoy the outdoors.“Since I became governor, we have enacted billions of dollars in tax cuts. This year’s hunting, fishing and camping sales tax holiday—ongoing through December 31—will provide Floridians with even more tax relief,” said Governor DeSantis. “We are proud to protect Floridians’ Second Amendment rights while helping hunters, anglers, and sportsmen keep more of their hard-earned money.”The Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday began September 1 and runs through December 31, 2026. During the holiday, Florida will suspend the collection of sales tax on eligible firearms, ammunition and hunting, fishing and camping equipment.Eligible purchases include: Ammunition; Firearms, including pistols, rifles and shotguns; Firearm accessories, including holsters, grips, sights, stocks and cleaning kits; Bows, crossbows and related accessories; Fishing rods, reels, bait and tackle; and Eligible camping supplies, including tents, sleeping bags, camping stoves and lanterns. Following the success of last year’s inaugural holiday, Florida expanded tax relief for 2026. This year, the state doubled the eligible price thresholds for fishing bait and tackle to $10 for individual items and $20 for multiple items sold together. Florida also expanded tax relief for firearm accessories through a separate sales tax exemption that includes magazines, range bags, firearm barrels, triggers, slings, bipods and suppressors.“Consumers can take advantage of the 2026 Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday by purchasing qualifying supplies tax-free from September 1 through December 31,” said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Chief Conservation Officer George Warthen. “Thanks to Governor DeSantis and the Legislature, this is an opportunity to invest in equipment that helps connect people with Florida’s great outdoors”This year’s holiday is expected to provide approximately $40 million in tax relief to Florida’s hunters, anglers and sportsmen. Combined with the estimated $45 million in tax relief provided during the inaugural holiday in 2025, Floridians are projected to save nearly $85 million over the first two years of the program. The Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday builds on Governor DeSantis’ record of protecting Second Amendment rights and expanding opportunities for Florida’s sportsmen. Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida enacted Constitutional Carry and eliminated a provision in state law that allowed firearm restrictions to automatically take effect during declared local emergencies. Last year, Governor DeSantis also signed legislation streamlining Florida’s concealed weapon licensing process and prohibiting the use of drones to harass individuals on state hunting lands or private shooting ranges.Florida has also expanded opportunities for hunters and anglers. Last year, Florida brought back the black bear hunt for the first time in a decade, and the state is continuing that opportunity in 2026. Applications for the 2026 bear hunt are open through September 21, with the statewide hunt scheduled for December 5 through December 27.In Lakeland, Governor DeSantis also broke ground on the new Florida Archery Center at Tenoroc, which was authorized in this year’s state budget.Tenoroc serves the public and hunter safety students and currently offers supervised rifle and handgun ranges, sporting clays, 5-stand, trap, air rifle and archery ranges. The new Florida Archery Center will expand Tenoroc’s existing offerings while providing more opportunities for Floridians to enjoy shooting sports and safely and responsibly exercise their Second Amendment rights.A full list of items eligible for the 2026 Hunting, Fishing and Camping Sales Tax Holiday is available at FloridaRevenue.com/HuntFishCamp.

2nd Grade Resources

On TPT (Teachers Pay Teachers), 2nd Grade Resources bring together teacher-created materials that support the skills second graders are building every day. This includes reading, writing, math, and classroom routines that fit well with the pace of a second-grade classroom. Teachers often look for resources that are clear, engaging, and easy to use without a lot of prep. That mix makes it simpler to support whole-group lessons, small groups, and independent practice. Teachers can find task cards, lesson plans, printable worksheets, centers, assessments, and game-based practice sets that align with a wide range of classroom needs. These formats are helpful because they break learning into manageable parts and make review feel more active for students. A set of reading passages or math practice pages can reinforce a skill quickly, while centers and task cards give students focused repetition. Many resources also include answer keys, recording sheets, and differentiated options, which saves valuable planning time. In the classroom, a teacher might print a set of phonics cards for a small group, use a math center during guided instruction, and send home a review page for extra practice. When lessons are already full, ready-to-use resources make it easier to keep the day moving without creating everything from scratch. They can be used for morning work, intervention, exit tickets, or fast finishers with very little setup. That kind of flexibility helps teachers stay organized while giving students steady practice with important second-grade skills.

Children & Grief

"Guiding Children Through Grief Death is a natural event. Experts agree that children, even the very young, should not be shielded from the death of a loved one. Children have the capacity to recognize death as an event and the curiosity to ask questions about the event. The general advice is to talk to the child simply and truthfully about the death, in an age-appropriate manner.Ask questions to determine what the child already knows about the situation. You may then explain the situation to him simply and honestly. For instance, you may say, “Grandma’s heart got too tired and stopped working, so she died.”It is important to avoid giving answers that may confuse or frighten the child, such as “Grandma went to sleep and is not going to wake up” or “God took Grandma to be with the angels.” While these phrases are meant to comfort and soothe, the child may interpret them in a far more literal sense. For example, the child might develop a fear of going to sleep because the same thing might happen to him.Allow the child to ask questions if he wants, but do not pressure him if he doesn’t respond. A younger child may ask questions such as “Where is Grandma now?” or “Is my kitty in heaven?” Older children may comprehend the finality of death more fully and ask more abstract questions that are related to issues of faith, the meaning of life, etc.For any age group, stick with truthful, simple answers in terms that the child can understand. How do you explain the death of a loved one to a child? The age and emotional development of a child will influence the way they experience grief. Ages 2 to 7 Up to 7 years of age, children see death mainly as a separation event. This may cause them to feel abandoned and scared. They may fear being alone, and may not want to sleep alone at night, or go to school.Because children this young are usually not skilled at verbally expressing their feelings, they may “act out” instead, through behaviors such as temper tantrums, refusing to obey adults, or creating an imaginary life, accompanied by role-playing. Other behaviors, usually manifested by children between the ages of 2 and 5, may include eating, sleeping, toileting, or bed-wetting problems. Very young children under the age of 2 may suddenly refuse to talk and become more irritable in general. Ages 7 to 12 Children in this age group have begun to understand death as a permanent event. They may regard death as a more personal threat to their individual safety, develop a fear of dying themselves, or resort to “preventive” behaviors to “protect” themselves from death, such as aligning themselves with someone they think can protect them, or focusing on being “brave” or being “good”. Others may simply withdraw socially and/or emotionally from others.Symptoms may include problems concentrating on schoolwork, trouble following directions, and difficulty performing daily tasks. Teens While teenagers understand and perceive death in closely the same way as adults, they may express their grief differently. They may react in more dramatic ways or adopt reckless behaviors in an attempt to “defy” death. Reckless driving, smoking, drinking alcohol, taking illegal drugs, or having unprotected sex may all be forms of “acting out” their anxieties and feelings of grief.Thoughts of suicide may sometimes be present in a teen who is having trouble processing his or her loss. Warning signs of suicide in children and teens may include a preoccupation with death, having thoughts or openly talking about suicide, or giving away belongings.Parents of teens who have lost a loved one should be aware of any changes in their child’s behavior and should seek professional counseling immediately for the child if they feel their child may be in danger."
