Dunedin Brewery Clarifies Sound Ordinance Information

We've hosted nearly four thousand (4000) concerts since 2001 in our existing location in vibrant Downtown Dunedin. In 2018, we began having issues with enforcement due to a resident misinforming the PCSO on our city's ordinance. We solved that issue in 2018, and we solved the one we had this past year. Now that the City is ready to clarify and ensure these issues don't pop up every couple years--those that stand against it have reduced themselves to spreading bad information to the community. We wanted to correct that with our own set of friendly facts. Please help save Dunedin's delightful legacy and nightlife by letting your City Commission know you SUPPORT the City Manager's Clarification on the existing sound ordinance.

This downtown was built for good beer, live music, and entertainment for all... including adults after 11pm. Do you know the City of Dunedin's Sound Ordinance AKA the Dunedin Noise Ordinance 107-41?Here are a few facts: 1. You are in violation if you exceed 65db at edge of your own property line from 11pm-7am. (PCSO must take decibel reading in order for violation to occur) 2. Anonymous complaints are not allowed (FL ST 162.21) 3. Amplified noise/speakers are not allowed outside after 11pm 4. Sound can momentarily exceed 65db when a door opens for entering/exiting (sounds reasonable) 5. 65db is equivalent to a normal conversation between 2 people at 3 feet from observer (science!) 6. Pinellas County Ordinance allows 72db between 7am-11pm 7. Ambient noise level of Downtown Dunedin in 2008 was 65db when ordinance was created through work by both residents and businesses Currently there is misinformation being spread that businesses are pushing to allow amplified noise til 3AM, which is not true. We simply support the City Manager’s desire to clarify a portion that has confused enforcement since 2018. This clarification is important to codify the original spirit of the ordinance, which never included “zero tolerance” for sound after 11pm.If not clarified, anyone (even residents) making any sounds after 11pm will be in violation depending on the discretion of PCSO and their neighbors. Keep Dunedin Delightful, Fun, & Vibrant... not a municipal HOA!
