Strong Storm Brings 50 MPH Winds to Meigs, Mason, Jackson Counties

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Meigs, Mason, and Jackson counties until 12:30 AM EDT on September 21, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston WV reports that a strong thunderstorm, located near Mason or Pomeroy, is moving southeast at 25 mph.

This storm is producing wind gusts up to 50 mph, as indicated by Doppler radar. Gusty winds could lead to downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. If you are outdoors, you should seek shelter inside a building immediately.

Torrential rainfall is also associated with this thunderstorm and may cause localized flooding. Residents are advised not to drive their vehicles through flooded roadways. Areas potentially impacted include Pomeroy, Racine, Ravenswood, New Haven, Mason, Middleport, Syracuse, Hartford City, Cheshire, Mount Alto, Lakin, Cottageville, and Letart.
