SANTA FE, N.M. – A New Mexico court has mandated Meta Platforms Inc. to pay $567 million following a ruling concerning the mental health of young people. Judge Bryan Biedscheid issued the decision late Thursday.
The court order allocates $420 million of the total amount for treatment services targeting young individuals. The remaining funds will address awareness and prevention initiatives, screening services, and other associated costs over the next five years.
The ruling marks a development in discussions surrounding the impact of online platforms on youth mental well-being.
