Wind Advisory Issued: Prepare for Gusts Up To 60 MPH
A Wind Advisory has been issued by NWS Charleston WV for portions of southwest Virginia and West Virginia, effective from 5 PM EDT Saturday until 11 AM EDT Sunday, with gusts up to 60 mph possible; secure loose objects and prepare for power outages.
Residents in affected areas should secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages due to a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston WV. The advisory is in effect from 5 PM EDT Saturday, October 10th, until 11 AM EDT Sunday, October 11th.
Southeast winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Isolated gusts up to 60 mph are possible along the highest ridgelines and favored terrain for downslope winds. These conditions could lead to downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.
The advisory covers portions of southwest Virginia, specifically Dickenson and Buchanan counties, and northeast, southeast, and southern West Virginia, including McDowell, Wyoming, Northwest Raleigh, Southeast Raleigh, Northwest Fayette, Southeast Fayette, Northwest Nicholas, Southeast Nicholas, Northwest Webster, Southeast Webster, Northwest Pocahontas, Northwest Randolph, and Southeast Randolph counties.
The NWS attributes these strong winds to the remnants of Isaias, with higher wind speeds expected to be transported to the surface due to interaction with higher terrain. For additional information, please visit https://www.weather.gov/rlx or check the NWS Charleston WV X and Facebook pages.
