Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Whitley Counties Advised to Shelter Immediately

Residents in Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, and Whitley Counties are advised to seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued until 9:45 PM EDT tonight, September 21.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, a severe thunderstorm was detected at 9:33 PM EDT over Huxley, approximately 15 miles northwest of Williamsburg. The storm is moving east at 15 mph.

The NWS reports the storm presents hazards including 60 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail, based on radar indications. Expected impacts include damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Areas specifically impacted include Bark Camp and Youngs Creek.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, which may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
