Residents in Campbell, Claiborne, and Union Counties should seek shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Morristown TN has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately until 6:15 PM EDT.
At 5:30 PM EDT, NWS Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm located 7 miles south of Wilkerson, or 10 miles northeast of La Follette. This storm is tracking southeast at 15 mph. The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 50 mph, which could potentially knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects.
Areas expected to be impacted include Fincastle, White Oak, and Clairfield. The NWS also reports that torrential rainfall is accompanying this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised not to attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
The Special Weather Statement will expire at 6:15 PM EDT. Remain vigilant and prioritize safety during this period.
