Lauderdale County Looks to Capitalize on Aggregate Opportunity

Staff Writer
May 8, 2026

Lauderdale County supervisors are exploring a promising opportunity to acquire crushed concrete for local projects, potentially saving taxpayer dollars and streamlining road work.

During a work session held last Thursday, Road Manager Rush Mayatt informed supervisors that he and the Clarke County Road Manager recently visited the North American Coal Plant in Kemper County. Their visit revealed a substantial store of approximately 7,000 cubic yards of crushed concrete available for use.

This aggregate material, often used in road construction and other infrastructure projects, presents a valuable resource for Lauderdale County. Utilizing this readily available material from a nearby source could offer significant logistical and financial advantages for upcoming county projects.

Further details regarding the acquisition and planned use of the crushed concrete are expected to be discussed in future supervisor meetings as the county looks to capitalize on this local resource.
