Heat Advisory Issued for San Joaquin Valley, Foothills Until Thursday Night
A Heat Advisory has been issued by NWS Hanford CA for the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills, with temperatures up to 101 degrees expected until Thursday, October 8 at 10:00 PM PDT.
Residents across the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills should prepare for high temperatures up to 101 degrees Fahrenheit and overnight lows between 70 and 75 degrees, as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford CA.
The advisory is effective immediately, October 7, and will remain in effect until 10:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8. This includes the West Side Mountains north of 198, Los Banos - Dos Palos, Merced - Madera - Mendota, Planada - Le Grand - Snelling, Coalinga - Avenal, West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties, Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma, Fresno-Clovis, West Side Mountains South of 198, Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5, Delano-Wasco-Shafter, Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore, Visalia - Porterville - Reedley, Buena Vista, Bakersfield, Southeast San Joaquin Valley, South End San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa Madera Foothills, Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra, Fresno-Tulare Foothills, Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra, South End Sierra Foothills, and South End of the Lower Sierra areas.
The NWS warns that these hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses, posing a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those without effective cooling or hydration.
To stay safe, residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
