Heat Advisory Issued for San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Foothills Until Friday Night
A Heat Advisory has been issued by NWS Hanford for the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills, effective until Friday, October 9, at 10:00 PM PDT, with temperatures up to 102 degrees expected.
Residents across the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills should prepare for dangerously hot conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford has issued a Heat Advisory effective immediately, October 6, at 4:32 PM PDT, through Friday, October 9, at 10:00 PM PDT.
High temperatures are expected to reach up to 102 degrees. Overnight lows in the Sierra Foothills, particularly where the thermal belt is strongest, are anticipated to remain between 70 and 75 degrees. These conditions pose a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses for many, especially those without adequate cooling or hydration.
The advisory covers a wide area including the West Side Mountains north of 198, Los Banos - Dos Palos, Merced - Madera - Mendota, Planada - Le Grand - Snelling, Coalinga - Avenal, West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties, Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma, Fresno-Clovis, West Side Mountains South of 198, Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5, Delano-Wasco-Shafter, Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore, Visalia - Porterville - Reedley, Buena Vista, Bakersfield, Southeast San Joaquin Valley, South End San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa Madera Foothills, Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra, Fresno-Tulare Foothills, Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra, South End Sierra Foothills, and South End of the Lower Sierra.
The NWS advises everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sun exposure, and check on relatives and neighbors during this period of extreme heat.
