Heat Advisory Issued: Dangerous Temperatures Expected Through Wednesday
A Heat Advisory is in effect until Wednesday, October 7th, for the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills, with temperatures up to 104 degrees expected; residents should drink fluids, stay cool, and check on others.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills, effective immediately until 11:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, October 7th. Residents are urged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford CA reports that high temperatures are expected to reach up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, with the warmest conditions in the southern San Joaquin Valley. Overnight lows in the Sierra Foothills, particularly where the thermal belt is strongest, are projected to remain between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
The affected areas include: West Side Mountains north of 198; Los Banos - Dos Palos; Merced - Madera - Mendota; Planada - Le Grand - Snelling; Coalinga - Avenal; West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties; Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma; Fresno-Clovis; West Side Mountains South of 198; Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5; Delano-Wasco-Shafter; Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore; Visalia - Porterville - Reedley; Buena Vista; Bakersfield; Southeast San Joaquin Valley; South End San Joaquin Valley; Mariposa Madera Foothills; Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra; Fresno-Tulare Foothills; Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra; South End Sierra Foothills; and South End of the Lower Sierra.
The NWS warns of a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those without effective cooling or hydration. To stay safe, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
