Wind Advisory Issued for Mountain Counties Until Sunday Morning
A Wind Advisory is in effect for Avery, Burke Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Henderson, McDowell Mountains, Polk Mountains, and Rutherford Mountains Counties until Sunday, October 11, at 8:00 AM EDT, with gusts up to 45 mph possible.
Residents in Avery, Burke Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Henderson, McDowell Mountains, Polk Mountains, and Rutherford Mountains Counties should prepare for a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg SC.
The advisory is in effect from now until 8:00 AM EDT on Sunday, October 11. East winds are expected to reach 10 to 20 mph, with occasional gusts up to 40 mph possible. A few locations may experience brief gusts up to 45 mph.
These strong winds can make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. The NWS advises using extra caution. Gusty winds may also blow around unsecured objects. There is a potential for tree limbs to be blown down, and a few power outages may occur. Trees rooted in saturated soil are at increased risk of toppling.
