Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Marion County: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Marion County, including Hamilton, from tonight until tomorrow morning, with expected wind gusts up to 45 mph and significant flooding risk; residents should complete preparations now.
MARION COUNTY, AL – October 9, 2026 – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Marion County, effective immediately from 9:56 PM CDT tonight until 6:00 AM CDT tomorrow, October 10. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, reports Hamilton is specifically affected. Residents are urged to complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.
Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could cause limited damage to structures like porches and sheds, break large tree limbs, and lead to scattered power and communications outages. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and hazardous driving conditions are anticipated, particularly on bridges.
Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. This poses a significant threat for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and creeks could quickly swell, and floodwaters may enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
Tornadoes are not expected, but gusty winds and thunderstorms are still possible. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
