Mark Lubell Named Executive Director of Sag Harbor Cinema
Mark Lubell has been named Executive Director of the Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center, the organization's board announced. Lubell, a Sag Harbor resident, most recently led the International Center of Photography in New York from 2013 to 2022.
At ICP, Lubell raised over $90 million for institutional expansion and oversaw the acquisition and renovation of the organization's permanent home at 84 Ludlow Street. He repositioned ICP's programs around new media and contemporary visual culture.
Before ICP, Lubell served as director of Magnum Photos from 2003 to 2011, where he led a digital transformation that generated 51 percent of revenue from new business lines within three years. American Photo named him "Innovator of the Year" for his work in multimedia and digital community building.
Earlier in his career, Lubell served as Chief Operations Officer of Here Is New York: A Democracy of Photographs, a nonprofit created after September 11. He currently advises organizations through Vagrant Ventures, a firm he co-founded that focuses on visual literacy strategy and audience engagement.
"I am honored to join the Sag Harbor Cinema as its Executive Director," Lubell said. "As a resident, I have long admired the Cinema's dedication to the art of filmmaking. I look forward to strengthening the Cinema's cultural offerings and community contributions."
Board President John Alschuler said the board sought Lubell's expertise in fundraising and leadership in the visual arts. "He will expand on the existing relationship with our community and schools," Alschuler said.
