Dayton Avenue School Earns Leader in Me Lighthouse Recognition
Dayton Avenue School received the Leader in Me Lighthouse designation on April 23, becoming the second school in the district to earn the global recognition for student leadership and academic excellence.
Principal Dr. Shelita Watkis and staff embedded leadership principles into daily operations by training students in The 7 Habits, assigning students leadership roles throughout the school, and holding student-led conferences where students track progress in Leadership Notebooks. South Street School holds the district's other Lighthouse designation.
The school uses the 4DX process to set and track Wildly Important Goals at the school, classroom and staff levels. Students lead their own learning by assessing needs, setting goals and carrying out action plans.
