Dangerous Swimming Conditions Expected on Lake Michigan Beaches
A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for Lake Michigan beaches in Door, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc Counties, warning of dangerous swimming conditions due to high waves and strong currents from tonight through Wednesday night.
DOOR, KEWAUNEE, MANITOWOC COUNTIES – Residents and visitors are advised to remain out of Lake Michigan waters due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay, effective from late tonight, September 29, until late Wednesday night, October 1.
The NWS warns of high waves and dangerous currents along beaches in Door, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc Counties. These conditions pose a significant risk, with strong currents capable of pulling swimmers into deeper water and high waves potentially sweeping individuals off piers.
Affected beaches include Rock Island State Beach, Baileys Harbor beaches, and Whitefish Dunes Beach in Door County. In Kewaunee County, Cresent Beach and City of Kewaunee Beach are susceptible. Manitowoc County beaches under this warning include Point Beach, Neshotah Beach, and Red Arrow Beach.
For public safety, the National Weather Service strongly advises staying out of the water to avoid these hazardous swimming conditions.
