Manistique Opens Façade Grant Program for Downtown Property Owners

The Manistique Downtown Development Authority is accepting applications for grants covering up to 50 percent of exterior improvement costs, with a maximum award of $2,000 per project.

The Façade Improvement Grant Program funds work on commercial and mixed-use buildings in the DDA District, including storefront rehabilitation, masonry repair, exterior painting paired with other work, awnings, window and door replacements, exterior lighting, sign removal, and restoration of architectural features.

Property owners and tenants of existing buildings in the district can apply. Tenants must have written permission from property owners. All property taxes, utilities, and special assessments must be current, and the DDA must approve projects before construction begins.

The DDA's Beautification Committee reviews applications and recommends projects to the board for final approval. Property owners must complete approved work within 18 months and submit paid receipts for reimbursement.

Applications open March 1 and are due by April 30.

Property owners can obtain guidelines and applications by contacting the Manistique Downtown Development Authority at 300 N. Maple Street, (906) 341-2290, or [email protected].
