Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Riley, Wabaunsee Counties Until 7:45 PM CDT

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Riley and Wabaunsee Counties, Kansas, effective immediately until 7:45 PM CDT tonight, September 19, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Topeka, KS, issued the warning at 7:08 PM CDT.

Residents in the affected areas should prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside must move to a shelter, inside a strong building, and away from windows.

At 7:08 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 3 miles southeast of St. George to 8 miles west of Eskridge, moving northeast at 45 mph. The primary hazards are 70 mph wind gusts and penny-size hail, as indicated by radar. This is expected to cause considerable tree damage, and damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

Locations impacted include Alma, Eskridge, Maple Hill, McFarland, Paxico, Keene, and Volland. This warning also covers Interstate 70 between mile markers 318 and 345.
