Nashville Police Nab 22-Year-Old in East Nashville Carjacking Spree

Nashville Metro Police took a 22-year-old man into custody Friday following a series of armed carjackings that struck East Nashville, as initially reported by Fox 17. Investigators connected the suspect to five incidents spanning the past week, during which victims were threatened at gunpoint and vehicles stolen from streets and parking lots in the vibrant area known for its music venues and trendy eateries. Three of the stolen cars were recovered, providing key evidence in the case.

The spree heightened fears among East Nashville residents, a neighborhood popular with young professionals and families along bustling corridors like Gallatin Avenue and Dickerson Pike. Police deployed additional patrols and used surveillance footage and witness tips to track the suspect, culminating in his arrest without further incident. No injuries were reported in the linked carjackings, though the violence echoed recent high-profile cases in the city.

This bust comes amid a surge in carjackings across Nashville, including a fatal shooting Saturday during an attempted carjacking on 8th Avenue South near the Melrose neighborhood, where a 44-year-old food delivery driver fatally shot suspect Brandon Phillips, 40. In a separate Thursday incident on Althrop Way, 17-year-old Jabari Thomas and another teen faced juvenile charges after a masked gunman stole a woman's Toyota sedan; a 9mm pistol and ski mask were recovered from their apartment. Metro Police emphasized ongoing investigations into related crimes plaguing the city.
