Temporary Shelter Open at Walker Community Center for Slink Fire Evacuees

A temporary shelter is now open at the Walker Community Center (442 Mule Deer Rd) for those affected by the Slink Fire, burning off Highway 395 just south of Highway 89 in Mono County.

MONO COUNTY, CA – Residents affected by the Slink Fire, burning just south of Highway 89 off Highway 395, are advised that a temporary shelter has been established. The Public Alert System has announced that the Walker Community Center, located at 442 Mule Deer Road, is now open to provide services for those in need.

This Local Area Emergency alert is considered Severe and is effective immediately, beginning October 4, 2026, at 1:14 AM UTC. The shelter will remain open, and services available, until the alert expires on October 5, 2026, at 1:14 AM UTC. The National Weather Service attributes this alert to ongoing Slink Fire activity in the Mono County area.

Those impacted by the fire are urged to proceed to the Walker Community Center for assistance and shelter.
