Senator Rick Scott discussed Chinese military companies and the national economy Tuesday on WDBO’s Orlando’s Morning News with Scott Anez. The conversation also covered his proposed legislation targeting Chinese firms and his views on the midterm elections.

Scott highlighted two bills he introduced Sept. 30: the Know Your Sanctioned Securities Act and The Protecting U.S. Investors from Chinese Military Companies Act. These bills direct the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to identify and suspend Chinese Communist Party military companies from trading on U.S. exchanges. Scott urged Americans to stop purchasing Chinese products or stocks, stating, “We’re giving them American dollars to go build their military to go defeat us. Now, come on, does that make any sense?”

Scott also commented on the Senate race between Sen. Ashley Moody and Rep. Angie Nixon, calling Moody “a clear choice.” He attributed Democratic leanings toward socialist policies to the rising cost of living, citing starter homes, higher education and healthcare as issues impacting Central Florida residents.

Regarding the economy, Scott advocated for balancing the budget, limiting regulations and focusing on job creation. He compared Florida’s job growth of 63,900 private payroll jobs added over the past year, according to the Joint Economics Committee, to his tenure as governor. In 2018, his final year in office, Florida added more than 251,200 private-sector jobs. He believes Republicans can maintain control of Congress by focusing on improving people’s lives through less government intervention.

The senator also praised President Donald Trump’s communication with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a September White House summit, Xi’s first visit to the United States in more than a decade. Scott noted U.S. dependence on China for goods and emphasized the need to reduce that dependence while still engaging diplomatically.
