The City of Madison is looking to fill a full-time Wastewater Technician position at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, a vital cog in ensuring the health of our local waterways, including those feeding into nearby lakes. The role is crucial for the operation and maintenance of the city's wastewater infrastructure.

The technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining essential equipment, including pumps, motors, and control systems. Daily tasks involve monitoring and adjusting chemical feed rates, collecting and analyzing wastewater samples to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and performing routine laboratory tests such as BOD and TSS. Accurate record-keeping of plant operations and maintenance activities is also a key duty, helping to maintain the plant's efficiency, much like the meticulous record-keeping that preserves Madison's rich history.

The position requires the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions, assist with facility cleaning, and ensure adherence to all safety regulations. The city is seeking candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of experience in wastewater treatment or a related field. Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment, the ability to read technical manuals, and strong teamwork skills are necessary. Candidates must also possess a valid driver's license and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. While a wastewater certification is preferred, it is not a mandatory requirement.

The salary range for the Wastewater Technician is $40,000 to $55,000, commensurate with experience. The position includes a full benefits package, covering health, dental, vision, and retirement plans.

Interested applicants were instructed to submit a cover letter, resume, and three professional references to the City of Madison Human Resources Department, located at 101 SW 2nd Street, MADISON, SD 57042, or via email to [email protected]. The application deadline was July 12, 2024, at 5:00 PM CST.
