Residents across North and Central Georgia must prepare immediately for significant impacts from Hurricane Isaias, which is strengthening over the Gulf. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement, indicating expected severe conditions from early Saturday through early Sunday.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Chattahoochee, Harris, Heard, Macon, Marion, Meriwether, Muscogee, Pike, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, Troup, Upson, and Webster counties, where wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible. A High Wind Watch covers most of North Georgia, anticipating prolonged easterly winds with gusts up to 40 to 50 mph. These winds could lead to widespread power outages due to downed trees and limbs.

A Flood Watch is active for the entire area, with 1 to 3 inches of rain expected, and localized amounts up to 5 inches, potentially causing flash flooding. Additionally, a dangerous tornado event is possible, especially in outer rainbands, with tornadoes developing quickly throughout Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

Check your emergency plan and supplies. Secure outdoor objects. Stay informed via weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio, and local news. Have multiple ways to receive Tornado Warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. The next update is expected around 3 PM today, or sooner if conditions warrant. Follow advice from local officials regarding evacuations and safety.
