Noxubee County residents must act now to complete preparations as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued, effective immediately until 6:15 PM CDT today, October 9th. The National Weather Service in Jackson MS warns of hazardous wind conditions and potential moderate flooding.

Forecasters predict peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property like porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break, with some trees potentially snapping or uprooting. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Noxubee County, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Floodwaters may enter some structures, and driving conditions will become hazardous. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though gusty winds and thunderstorms may still occur.
