Noxubee County residents must act immediately to prepare for a Tropical Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson MS today, October 9, at 1:00 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. The warning is effective until 9:00 PM UTC today.

Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin. Expect potential limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Many large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be snapped or uprooted. Roads may become impassable due to debris, and scattered power and communications outages are possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Noxubee County, with peak rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding. Residents in vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches could overflow. Floodwaters may enter some structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous with potential road and bridge closures.

The NWS indicates that tornadoes are not expected at this time. Stay informed of the latest forecast changes.
