Dangerous Swimming Conditions Expected Until 8 PM Tonight
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect until 8 PM tonight for Benzie, Manistee, Western and Eastern Mackinac Counties, and Beaver Island, warning of dangerous swimming conditions due to high waves and rip currents. Stay out of the water and away from piers.
Residents and visitors in Benzie, Manistee, Western Mackinac, and Eastern Mackinac Counties, as well as Beaver Island and surrounding islands, are advised to stay out of the water due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Gaylord MI.
This Moderate Severity alert is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, September 30th. Dangerous swimming conditions are expected due to high waves, potentially reaching 3 to 5 feet, and rip currents.
The NWS warns that a high swim risk indicates life-threatening waves and currents. To ensure safety, individuals should remain out of the water and avoid dangerous areas such as piers and breakwalls.
