Lyons Rebuilds Parks and City Facilities After Hurricane Helene

City officials updated residents on reconstruction efforts at a meeting with The Hill Climbers at Lyons Community Church.

At Partin Park, crews are rebuilding the Big Green Monster as a metal structure designed to withstand future storms. Workers are adding parking spaces, removing hazardous trees, leveling the upper playground deck, and demolishing the damaged concession stand near Field 4. A new 12-stall public restroom will open adjacent to the Birthday House. The city is installing 20 AI-powered security cameras at Partin Park and Vincent Faison Park.

Hurricane Helene destroyed the City Gym, slated for demolition. Demolition of the Callaway Center is underway. City Council members are designing replacements.

At Vincent Faison Park, crews are installing playground equipment and building pickleball courts. Work on the community center continues, with a ribbon-cutting planned soon.

Community Development Director Jessica Barfield announced upcoming Main Street events, including Tales of the Altamaha and Live Nights in Lyons featuring music at Society 304 Gardens. Residents can visit the Main Street office to learn about events and volunteer.
