What is C.E.R.T you ask? It stands for Community Emergency Response Team. We aim to teach our community to be prepared in case of natural or man-made disasters. As Floridians, we know, hurricanes are bound to happen. This FEMA-based course will teach you how to help yourselves and help your neighbors in case of a large-scale disaster. In these types of events, Police, Fire or EMS might not be able to respond to your home or community for 24-72 hours. We will teach you fire suppression skills, building search and rescue, first aid, victim triage, and more.
The course is 4 weeks long. Two, 3-hour classes per week. We ask that students are city residents and are 16 and older.

Location: 6500 Congress Ave, Suite 200, Boca Raton (Training Room 211A) AND Fire Training Complex, 800 Banyan Trail, Boca Raton

This course consists of 24 hours of training. Classes are three hours long and are taught by trained Professional Firefighters and Paramedics from Boca Raton Fire Rescue.

Class 1: May 5 - UNIT 1 Introduction to CERT Training / Disaster Preparedness Course review, content, and scheduling. Introduction to disasters, Meteorology 101, impact of disasters on infrastructures.
Class 2: May 7 - UNIT 2 Disaster Fire Suppression Identifying and reducing potential fire hazards, fire extinguisher use, fire suppression strategy, firefighting resources, firefighting techniques.
Class 3: May 12 - UNIT 3 Disaster Medical Operations - Part I Treatment strategies for life-threatening conditions and principles of triage.
Class 4: May 14 - UNIT 4 Disaster Medical Operations - Part II Basic First Aid, Head to Toe assessments, treatment for head wounds, treatment for fractures, sprains, burns and other injuries.
Class 5: May 19 - UNIT 5 Light Search and Rescue Operations Search / Rescue priorities and resources, rescuer safety. Techniques for size-up and search. Cribbing and removing lightly trapped victims.
Class 6: May 21 - UNIT 6 Terrorism Define Terrorism; identify actions to take before, during, and following a suspected terrorist incident.
