Available Shelters
Activated Shelters: No shelters activated at this time.
What to Expect:
Shelters are usually schools or community centers. Conditions may be crowded, noisy, and lacking privacy. Volunteers work to maintain safety and order. Staying with friends or family may be more comfortable.
What You Need to Know:
Each person receives approx. 20 sq. ft. of space. Identification is required upon entry. Most shelters are school gyms — bring an inflatable mattress, mat, or sleeping pad. Cots are not provided. Food may not be immediately available — eat before arriving. Doors close when winds reach 40 mph sustained. Electricity may be lost — bring flashlight + batteries, battery-operated or hand fan.
For pets, you must go to a designated pet-friendly shelter and bring: crate, vaccination records, collar with identification, food and water.
What to Bring:
Identification, at least 7 days' worth of prescription and non-prescription medications, eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, several changes of clothes and extra socks, baby supplies (formula, diapers), non-perishable food and water, cot, sleeping bag, blankets, pillow, flashlight and batteries, brush, comb, towel, washcloth, toothbrush, deodorant, soap, books, games, magazines, quiet electronics.
Personal Preparedness:
Emergency Management encourages all residents to develop a Personal Disaster Plan, prepare a Personal Disaster Kit including food, water, medications, important papers and documents, stay informed through county alerts, and notify friends and family that you are safe.
Sandbag Locations and Tips:
Fill bags one-half to two-thirds of the way full. Over-filled bags will result in a leaky sandbag wall. Stack sandbags so that the seams between the bags are staggered. Tuck the top of each bag under to ensure that the bag is sealed by its own weight. Please bring your own shovel.
