Sunlake Academy of Math and Science in Lutz has outlined its policy for student meal charges, reminding parents and guardians of their responsibility to keep school meal accounts funded. The academy participates in the National School Lunch and National School Breakfast programs, offering meals based on family income.
The academy uses a point-of-sale system to manage student meal accounts. Parents can monitor balances through the school's online portal or by contacting the school office. Payments are accepted via cash, check payable to Sunlake Academy of Math and Science, or through the online payment system. The school recommends making payments in advance to avoid negative balances.
When a student's account balance drops to $10 or less, automated notifications will be sent to parents via email or text message. Students will continue to receive meals as long as their account is not negative. Once a negative balance is reached, parents must provide an alternative meal for their student until the account is current. A formal written notification will be sent via email or U.S. mail if a negative balance exceeds a five-school-day grace period.
Sunlake Academy aims to collect all outstanding meal charges. Unpaid charges after final notification may lead to referral to a third-party collection agency, withholding of privileges such as extracurricular activities or field trips, or legal action to recover the debt. Parents experiencing financial hardship should contact school administration to discuss potential solutions or apply for free/reduced-price meal benefits.
