Atlanta, GA – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a press conference today to discuss updated recommendations for the vaccine against the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus. The update stems from proceedings of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
ACIP, a group advising the CDC, made specific recommendations regarding who should receive the H1N1 vaccine first as supplies initially remained limited. The committee prioritized certain age groups and those with underlying health conditions. Updated guidelines on dosages also became available, accounting for age and specific health status.
The CDC plans to disseminate more detailed information, which will include specific guidance for healthcare providers and the general public. The agency encourages individuals to consult their healthcare providers with questions about their personal risk factors and vaccination options as the H1N1 situation evolves.
