George County residents, particularly those in Lucedale, should immediately prepare for dangerous tropical storm force winds. The National Weather Service Mobile AL has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, effective tonight, October 7, at 9:53 PM CDT, expiring tomorrow, October 8, at 6:00 AM CDT.

Wind speeds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes is possible, along with downed trees and power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now.

Moderate flooding from heavy rainfall is also anticipated, with 1-3 inches expected and locally higher amounts. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and some roads may become impassable. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
