LOWNDES COUNTY, AL – Residents in Lowndes County, specifically Fort Deposit and Hayneville, are urged to shelter immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect. Issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, this warning began on October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT and is effective until October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC.
Dangerous winds are expected, with peak forecasts of 30-40 mph and gusts potentially reaching up to 65 mph. The NWS indicates a potential for winds between 58 to 73 mph. Last-minute preparations to protect life and property should now be complete.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. The NWS forecasts an additional 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible, leading to a potential for major flooding.
