Winston residents are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson MS, effective immediately, October 9 at 1:00 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. The warning is in effect until 9:00 PM CDT.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. The NWS indicates the potential for moderate flooding rain with 1-3 inches of rainfall, and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the possibility of moderate flooding, and residents in vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

While peak winds are forecast at 15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph, a potential for wind 39 to 57 mph remains. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected, but community officials are currently assessing realized wind impacts. Ensure emergency readiness should the wind forecast change.

Tornadoes are not expected, according to the NWS, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Residents should stay informed of the latest forecast changes.
