Rip Current Risk: Avoid Lake Erie Waters Through Wednesday Evening

Beachgoers in Lucas, Ottawa, Erie, Lorain, and Cuyahoga Counties are advised to remain out of Lake Erie waters due to a high risk of rip currents. The National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland OH has issued a Beach Hazards Statement, effective from September 20 at 9:55 PM EDT and continuing through Wednesday evening, September 23 at 10:00 PM EDT.

The NWS warns that wind and wave action will create strong currents along the lakeshore. These currents can carry swimmers away from the shore, through sandbars, and along structures extending into the lake.

For your safety, do not enter the water during this period to avoid hazardous swimming conditions. This statement applies to all beaches within Lucas, Ottawa, Erie, Lorain, and Cuyahoga Counties.
