Manatee County Deputy Dylan Leppek Receives Lifesaving Award for Drowning Rescue

Longboat Key residents recognize the critical role first responders play in our community's safety. Manatee County Deputy Dylan Leppek recently received the Manatee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Lifesaving Award for his swift and decisive actions in May, which directly contributed to saving a child's life during a drowning incident.

Deputy Leppek's recognition highlights the immediate impact local law enforcement has on the well-being of our families and neighbors. His quick response in a high-stress situation, alongside a citizen's efforts, ensured a positive outcome in what could have been a tragedy.

In May, Deputy Leppek responded to a report of a possible drowning. Multiple callers had reported a young child pulled from a pool, unresponsive, turning blue, and with CPR already in progress. Upon arrival, Deputy Leppek immediately ran to the pool area. He observed a citizen performing CPR and quickly took over chest compressions. The citizen continued rescue breaths, and together they provided lifesaving care until EMS personnel arrived at the scene.

After EMS assumed medical care, Deputy Leppek assisted the child's distraught mother and gathered critical information. The child was airlifted to a local hospital and made a full recovery, later released from care. The MCSO credited Deputy Leppek's actions, along with the citizen's efforts, with saving the child's life.
