Longboat Key & Manatee County Commissions Meet Sept. 24

Longboat Key and Manatee County commissioners will meet Thursday, Sept. 24, to discuss transportation, beach access, community facilities, grant opportunities, water and wastewater service, and federal storm-recovery funding.

The joint meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Manatee and Osprey rooms on the fifth floor of the Manatee County Administration Building, 1112 Manatee Avenue West in Bradenton. The meeting provides a forum for Longboat Key officials and county commissioners to address shared issues impacting services, access and funding.

The agenda includes an update on roundabout construction. Commissioners will also discuss short- and long-term support for a community center, changes to Coquina Beach parking and access during peak season, and collaborative grant opportunities.

Additional agenda items include the impacts of Amendment 3, tourism revenue for beach funding, water and wastewater updates, and the future of Federal Emergency Management Agency storm-recovery funding. The commissions will then take public comments on agenda items before adjourning.

Longboat Key Mayor Debra Williams and Vice Mayor Penny Gold are among the town officials scheduled to attend. The town commission roster also includes Gary Coffin, Nick Gladding, Sarah Karon, B.J. Bishop and Steve Branham. Manatee County officials listed include Chair Tal Siddique, First Vice Chair Amanda Ballard, Mike Rahn, Robert McCann, George W. Kruse and Jason Bearden. Charlie Bishop serves as county administrator, and Pamela D’Agostino serves as county attorney.

Residents may attend in person at the Bradenton administration building. The meeting will also stream online through the county’s meeting service and air on Manatee Government Access (Spectrum channel 644, Frontier channel 30 and Comcast channel 20 within Manatee County).
