Longboat Key residents and visitors should prepare for heavy rainfall and potential localized flooding as a frontal boundary brings increased precipitation to southwest Florida. The National Weather Service Tampa Bay Area issued an advisory for a marginal risk of excessive rainfall and flooding from today through Wednesday.
The Town of Longboat Key expects these conditions, particularly in areas with limited drainage or rapid rainfall accumulation, such as along Gulf of Mexico Drive. A cold front is expected to stall over central Florida, directing significant moisture toward the region.
Rainfall began Sunday, Oct. 5, across the Nature Coast and south through the Tampa Bay and I-4 corridor. Today, Oct. 6, the forecast includes rain across all of west, central and southwest Florida, including Longboat Key. These conditions are projected to continue through Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Heavy rainfall could cause localized flooding in low-lying areas and potentially raise area rivers. Residents should exercise caution, allow extra travel time and never drive through standing or flooded water, especially near intersections or beach access points.
The Town of Longboat Key will monitor weather conditions and provide updates if necessary. For the latest information, consult the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies.
