Woman Killed, Another Hurt in Rockford Sidewalk Crash
ROCKFORD, Minn. (Day.News) — One woman died and another suffered significant leg injuries after a juvenile girl driving with her mother struck them while they walked on a sidewalk in Rockford Sunday afternoon. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash at the intersection of Ash Street and Elm Street around 1:53 p.m. Deputies and fire officials arrived to find one woman pinned under the vehicle; they freed her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The surviving woman was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with serious injuries. The driver, a juvenile from Cologne, and her mother passenger were not hurt. Rockford, a small city of about 160 residents in Wright County northwest of the Twin Cities, saw its streets fill with emergency responders as the investigation began.
No charges have been announced as the sheriff’s office probes the circumstances of how the vehicle left the road and hit the pedestrians. The incident occurred at a residential area near Elm and Ash streets, highlighting safety concerns in the close-knit community. Wright County authorities have not released the names of the women killed or injured, pending family notification.
