Residents across eastern Kentucky should secure outdoor objects today as strong wind gusts are expected with the remnants of Hurricane Isaias. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, has issued a Special Weather Statement effective from 6:20 AM EDT this morning, October 10, until 5:00 PM EDT.

Southeasterly winds of 10 to 20 mph are anticipated, with gusts potentially reaching up to 35 mph. Isolated gusts up to 40 mph are possible, particularly in exposed areas near Lake Cumberland. The strongest winds are expected from late morning through the afternoon, coinciding with the arrival of initial rain bands. Winds are forecast to lessen once steady rainfall begins.

The affected counties include Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, Rowan, Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Elliott, Morgan, Johnson, Wolfe, Magoffin, Floyd, Lee, Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, Perry, Clay, Leslie, and Martin. Residents in these areas should take action to secure any unsecured outdoor objects and decor to prevent them from being blown around by the gusty winds.
