2014-06-23

Team leader Durny called  this afternoon to report that the team is safe and sound and enjoying the abundant oxygen in Anchorage. The team had an extra day at Base Camp, due to weather conditions, but the skies cleared and they were able to fly out this morning. It sounds like they assisted our air… The post June 5 Team Back in Anchorage appeared first on Mountain Trip .

June 5 “Alpenglow” Expedition – Rest Day at 14K

2014-06-17

Today was a planned rest and acclimatization day for the team.  Climbing a mountain as high as Denali requires climbers to be disciplined and methodical in their rate of ascent.  Fit climbers could pretty easily just keep on moving up the mountain day after day, but the decreasing barometric pressure at each higher elevation can… The post June 5 “Alpenglow” Expedition – Rest Day at 14K appeared first on Mountain Trip .

Happy Father’s Day Wishes from the June 5th Team

2014-06-16

Team leader Durny called in the trip report tonight. It was a beautiful, clear day today at 14 Camp, and the team enjoyed a leisurely rest day. It’s certain that the climbers spent some part of the day thinking about the move to High Camp, which is the plan for tomorrow. Fingers crossed for a… The post Happy Father’s Day Wishes from the June 5th Team appeared first on Mountain Trip .

June 5 “Alpenglow” Expedition – Carried Up Fixed Lines

2014-06-15

Durny called in to update us that the team carried loads up the fixed lines, which run up the steepest part of the West Buttress route.  They started out in what sounded like HOT conditions, which seems odd, considering they are on a glacier at over 14-15,000′!  The sun can be intense up on Denali,… The post June 5 “Alpenglow” Expedition – Carried Up Fixed Lines appeared first on Mountain Trip .

June 5th “Alpenglow” Team – Moved to Camp 3.

2014-06-13

Lead guide Durny called in from the broad basin at 14,200′ after the team did what is called a “single carry” up to camp.  Rather than carrying roughly half of their total kit and caching it below camp as many teams choose to do, they packed up all their food, fuel and supplies and carried… The post June 5th “Alpenglow” Team – Moved to Camp 3. appeared first on Mountain Trip .

June 5 “Alpenglow” Team – Dig, Baby, Dig at 11,200!

2014-06-11

Durny called in from a very snowy Camp 2 at 11,200′.  20″ of snow fell on the team, with winds gusting to 30 mph.  The team spent a lot of time digging their tents out of the continuously billowing snow.  Digging sessions were interspersed with eating, sleeping, reading and sessions of listening to music. Here… The post June 5 “Alpenglow” Team – Dig, Baby, Dig at 11,200! appeared first on Mountain Trip .
