16. A Dad's Experience - Giving Birth In China
So many people tell me that Dad's have no right to birth stories. I believe that they are just as essential to a healthy birth, and to those first moments with a newborn as the mother who bears the child. He will never go through labor, but the ones who are brave are the ones who can support their wife in the capacity that she needs. Paul Moore is one such man, who not once looked at fatherhood as a burden, but rather his greatest achievement in life, and his greatest delight. From day one, he never asked what culture required, and instead asked what he could give to learn about, to support, and to love his daughter. This dedication and enthusiasm overcame many of the strict laws that China had around birth, learning your baby's gender, and even getting to hold his daughter hours before policy allowed it. Years later, that same dedication led to him seeking answers for many of the dilemmas that he faced during his daughter's baby and toddler years. Beginning with how to build a teether that was different from the ones that he had access to when his own daughter was little. Thus, Smily Mia was born. And with it, his invention of the first platinum-grade silicone teether, that was wearable and made with a baby's physiology in mind. As a mom who was strictly against pacifiers during my first four children's baby years, I was totally fascinated with the story behind Paul's invention, as well as the care taken to actually support a baby's development. So many parents are grateful to find a pacifier that genuinely soothes their baby without compromising their oral health. Check out Paul's inventions and designs at: smilymia.comAnd you can find him on social media here: IG: @SmilyMiaUSA YT: @SmilyMia FB: SmilyMIaOfficial And for doula inquiries in the greater Phoenix Valley, you can book an appointment with me here: https://short.sweatpals.com/c1508b3fFor prenatal, postnatal, and family fitness classes, check out my schedule or make a request:www.sweatpals.com/host/Talyn_PrescottBe blessed, You were made to brave!
15. From homelessness to homeschooling, a mother who overcame.
When I first got a glimpse of Brittany's story, I knew she was an overcomer. Little did I know. As her story unfolds, I realize that she is more than that. When Brittney first discovered that she was pregnant, she and her husband were homeless. In a case so severe, she still chose to keep her baby, and she and her husband were able to find work and an apartment before having their first child. She's lived through financial hardship, lack of transportation, inductions, medical abuse, changing providers, and moving to a new state, all while going through her pregnancies and raising her children. She is now a homeschool mom, and works with her husband as they grow a pottery business. If you want to support an incredible family in a small business, their pottery website is: www.exterrapottery.comBrittney is, indeed, an overcomer! Need a doula in the phoenix valley, AZ? 14. Melissa Denning: Overcoming severe breastfeeding challenges
Today we are with Melissa Denning, the founder of mom aid, who is sharing all three of her pregnancy and birth stories, as well as the breastfeeding challenges she endured to feed her babies. So many women would have given up after dealing with sever cracked nipples, bleeding, scabbing, and constant pain. But Melissa didn't. She powered through and continued to breastfeed her baby and pump, and she walked out of that experience wanting better options for moms who go through a difficult breastfeeding journey. Nothing on the market at the time met those needs, so Melissa chose to figure it out, and that's how Mom Aid came to be. Check out mom aid (and be sure to order some boob aid for the pregnant or postpartum mom in your life!) www.momaid.comSay hi to Melissa: @momaid For doula inquiries in the phoenix valley Arizona, send a message to talyn@madetobrave.comFor pre & postnatal fitness classes in north phoenix and paradise valley message: talyn@madetobrave.com
13. Jayci Nutt. Finding your voice in labor, and knowing your support.
Jayci Nutt is an incredible mom to three children, a poet, and a deep thinker. She has gone through three births that each came with their own challenges, some expected, and some unexpected. In this episode she shares her journey through three inductions, and how she learned to advocate for herself and her babies throughout those three births, and what she would share with new moms and their husbands/support team who are walking into the hospital for the first time, especially for a medically necessary induction. I first met Jayci at a high school winter camp, and my first impression of her was someone who is incredibly sweet with just enough spunk to stand up for herself, and as she has grown into her role as a mother it is a privilege to see her story unfold into one that brings that spunk out on a new level, along with her faith in God as she navigates the realness of motherhood. We also touched on the spiritual elements that are part of the birthing process, and the emotional highs and lows that can differ vastly from birth to birth. Jayci is a brave mom, and she bravely delivered three babies against the odds. Every baby is bravely delivered, and I want to hear your story too!
