Monitor Weather: Strong Thunderstorms with Landspouts, 40 mph Gusts in Suwannee, Hamilton

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Suwannee and Hamilton Counties, warning of strong thunderstorms with landspouts and wind gusts up to 40 mph, effective until 1:45 PM EDT today, October 10.

Residents in Suwannee and Hamilton Counties should monitor weather conditions closely as the National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement.

As of 12:48 PM EDT today, October 10, strong thunderstorms were detected near Dowling Park, approximately 14 miles south of Suwannee River State Park. These storms are moving northeast at 40 mph and are capable of producing landspouts and wind gusts up to 40 mph. The statement is effective immediately and expires at 1:45 PM EDT.

Impacts include possible minor damage to outdoor objects. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations that may be impacted include Live Oak, Jasper, Jennings, White Springs, Suwannee Springs, Suwannee River State Park, Wellborn, Mcalpin, Crossroads, and Dowling Park.

Monitor local radio and television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. This storm may intensify.
