According to NASA, a solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, casting a shadow on Earth, blocking the sun. When watching the solar eclipse, wearing specialized eye protection is important. Viewing any part of the sun through a camera lens, binoculars or telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury.
