Greenwich, New Canaan Claim CT CIAC Football Crowns in Dominant Finals

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) crowned six state football champions on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, capping the 2025 season with decisive finals played amid winter chill. Divisions were stratified by school enrollment: Class LL for schools over 786 students, L for 613-785, MM for 508-612, M for 405-507, SS for 337-404, and S for under 336. Eight teams per class battled through playoffs, with Fairfield County powerhouses Greenwich and New Canaan leading the triumphs.

Greenwich High School, from affluent Greenwich in Fairfield County, secured its second straight Class LL title, demolishing Southington 45-6 in a display of offensive firepower. New Canaan High School, also from Fairfield County, remained perfect at 13-0, beating Cheshire 34-13 to claim its fourth consecutive Class L championship. In Class MM, Windsor High School edged Bunnell of Stratford 23-13, while Berlin High School snatched a Class M victory 20-15 over Brookfield in the final minute.

Daniel Hand High School of Madison prevailed 37-13 over defending Class SS champion Killingly for its 15th state title. Sheehan High School of Wallingford, in New Haven County, captured Class S with a 21-9 win over Northwest Catholic, powered by running back Joshua Durant's 215-yard, three-touchdown performance—its first crown since 2019. These victories highlighted local rivalries and resilience, from Greenwich's dynasty to Sheehan's breakout.
